The story

I had C-Diff and Giardia in 2023, and had IBS symptoms since, but not bad enough to visit a GI doctor. In September of 2025, while traveling abroad I got food poisoning. It lasted about one week and I was actively taking a probiotic to try and prevent this exact event, which in effect I think reduced symptoms. I got back home and continued to have odd symptoms, which I think were just post infectious IBS; but soon I started having issues with evacuation and began to worry. I visited a gastroenterologist and in a few months was diagnosed with pelvic floor dysfunction. Since then, I have treated that with therapy, but I still have issues some days and in turn I believe it has caused my SIBO. After trying, PHGG, Metamucil, Pepto-Bismol, align, and Florastor my symptoms persist and I recently took a Trio Smart breath test which identified a 93.8 PPM hydrogen, and 2.38 PPM hydrogen sulfide SIBO. My methane was normal. I’m currently waiting on rifaximin, but I am trying to understand other people’s experiences so that maybe I can effectively treat this.

This is one person's reported experience aggregated by GutPattern, not clinical advice, a treatment protocol, or a diagnosis. What helped one contributor can do nothing — or harm — for someone with a different underlying cause. Sudden, severe, bloody, feverish, or worsening symptoms belong with medical care.
